SUMMARY:Substation I Program (Session III)
DESCRIPTION:NEPPA’s Substation I Program is held 4-days/week for 4 weeks/year. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. Substation I is designed to be an introduction to substations including safety\, design\, operation\, equipment and theory. \nIn addition to in-class lecture\, the Substation I Program incorporates hands-on application of concepts and testing\, field visits and tours of different installations\, and weekly testing including a final exam to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the course content. \nUpon successful completion of the Program\, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Who should Attend \nThis program is designed for the following: \n\nLineworkers or operations employees\nSubstation Technicians\nEmployees or Supervisors transitioning from other departments\nEngineers\nConstruction Supervisors\nProject Managers\n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Course Dates & Hours \nUnless otherwise noted\, sessions are held in-person from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Tuesday – Thursday and virtually 8:00am – 11:00 am on Fridays. \nDates are subject to change however advance notice will be provided\, as needed. \nSession I: March 18 – 21\, 2025 passedSession II: April 8 – 11\, 2025 passedSession III: April 29 – May 2\, 2025Session IV: May 20 – 23\, 2025 \n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Location \nNEPPA Training Center200 New Estate RoadLittleton\, MA 01460 \n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Learning Objectives \n\nRecognize safety hazards in a substation\nDemonstrate a foundational knowledge of how electricity is transmitted through substations\nPractice safely entering\, exiting and performing maintenance in a substation.\nApply concepts of the substation’s role in a distribution system.\nIdentify and classify equipment found in a substation\, including applicable safety precautions including PPE\nDemonstrate an understanding of SCADA\, as well as basic switching and tagging.\nAbility to deenergize and reenergize a power transformer\nRecognize applicable standards\, specifications and regulations such as OSHA and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).\n\n\n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Course Prerequisites\nStudents are expected to take NEPPA’s Basic Electricity and Mathematics for Utility Operations (BEM) course\, and/or demonstrate a solid understanding of basic electricity concepts\, theory and mathematics through prequalification testing. The BEM Class will be held on the first day of Substation I. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Registration Fees \n2025 Registration fees include coffee and lunch each day. If you have any dietary restrictions or considerations\, please make note on your registration.  \n\n\n\nMembers:\n$2\,900\n\n\nNon-Members:\n$4\,300\n\n\n\n  \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Cancellations\nCancellations are accepted until two weeks prior to the program start date.
