SUMMARY:Substation II Program (Session III)
DESCRIPTION:  \nBuilding on the success of Substation I\, NEPPA is pleased to offer the Substation II Program which is held in 4-day sessions 4 times a year. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. Substation II expands on Substation I and moves into protection and controls\, understanding operations\, schematics\, and diagrams\, testing and test results interpretation of substation equipment.  Upon successful completion of the Program\, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion. \n  \nIn addition to in-class lecture\, the Substation II Program incorporates hands-on application of concepts and testing\, building\, and manipulating a relay panel\, and weekly testing including a final exam to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the course content.  \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				SESSION DATES & HOURS\nUnless otherwise noted\, sessions are held in-person from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Tuesday – Thursday and virtually 8:00am – 11:00 am on Fridays.\n  \n \nDates are subject to change however advance notice will be provided\, as needed. \nSession I: October 7 – October 10\, 2025 passedSession II: October 21 – October 24\, 2025 passedSession III: November 4 – November 7\, 2025Session IV: November 18 – November 21\, 2025 \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				LOCATION\nAll in-person classes will be held at NEPPA’s Training Center. Additional field visits may be arranged and will be communicated in advance of the session.  \nNEPPA Training Center200 New Estate RoadLittleton\, MA 01460 \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				WHO SHOULD ATTEND\nThis course is designed for \n\nLineworkers or operations employees\nSubstation Technicians\nEmployees or Supervisors transitioning from other departments\nEngineers\nConstruction Supervisors\nProject Managers\n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				LEARNING OBJECTIVES\nUpon successful completion of the Program\, Substation II participants should be able to:   \n\nApply concepts to design\, build\, maintain\, troubleshoot\, and repair a substation.\nDemonstrate an advanced understanding and knowledge of applicable standards\, specifications and regulations such as OSHA\, the NESC\, and NERC/CIP.\nPractice safely entering\, exiting and performing maintenance in a substation.\nApply advanced concepts of the substation’s role in a distribution system including testing and programming.\nDemonstrate ability to test and program equipment found in a substation\, including applicable safety precautions and PPE\nDemonstrate an advanced understanding of SCADA\, as well as switching and tagging.\nDemonstrate an applied understanding of how to operate and interpret relay functions. \n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				COURSE PREREQUISITES\nIn order to be successful in the Substation II Program\, students must complete the Substation I Program and participate in the Basic Electricity and Mathematics for Utility Operations course (which is day one of the Substation I Program).  \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				REGISTRATION\n2025 Registration fees include coffee and lunch each day.
