SUMMARY:Apprentice Lineworker Program - Year I
DESCRIPTION:NEPPA offers a four-year curriculum of the Northwest Lineman College’s Lineworker Certification Program and combines hands-on and formal classroom training. Students attend class four times a year for four days each to complete the four-year program. \nIn addition to classroom time\, students are expected to: \nSelf-study by reading the material \nTrack\, record\, and submit monthly apprenticeship reports of on-the-job training \nTrack\, record and submit quarterly “competency” forms \nEach year\, students participate in an additional two-day Skills Assessment Rodeo each year. The Apprentice Rodeo is designed to showcase the apprentices’ developing technical and climbing skills\, and to reinforce the program’s focus on professionalism\, safety\, and proper technique. \nAttendance Policy \nStudents are required to attend all 16-days of the in-class program as well as the two-day Skills Assessment Rodeo. Any student unable to attend their regularly scheduled class or the Skills Assessment Rodeo is required to make-up the time\, training\, and competencies covered during those class days. The NESC Overview: Significant Updates and Changes will be a one-day program being held Tuesday\, February 14\, 2023\, at the NEPPA Training Center (200 New Estate Road\, Littleton\, MA 01460). \nThe 2023 edition of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) was published in Aug. 2022 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and goes into effect on Feb. 1. The NESC is the national standard for safety in the design\, construction\, operation\, and maintenance of electric and communication systems. \nGet up-to-speed on the important variations that are effective in the 2023 edition. Over the past 20 years\, he has worked extensively with the NESC and is currently secretary of NESC Subcommittee 8 (Work Rules). He helped write the latest standard and the NESC Handbook. He also collaborates with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on many issues. He is currently chair of the arc flash committee for the NESC and has helped write every arc flash rule adopted by the NESC and the OSHA. \nHe began his career as an engineer at an electric cooperative then moved into public power\, where he spent nearly 30 years working for City Utilities of Springfield\, Missouri (retiring as the director of electric transmission and distribution).
