Mike took over the helm of NEPPA in May 2022 after a 40 year utility career that started inside a #6 fuel oil generation plant at Philadelphia Electric. \nPrior to his role at NEPPA\, Mike was the Energy & Technical Programs Manager for the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) in Hughesville\, Maryland\, and his main responsibility was the oversight of the Solar Interconnection and Electric Vehicle programs. \nBefore his stint at SMECO\, Mr. Hyland served as the Senior Vice President of Engineering Services at the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington DC for 24 years. In that position\, he was responsible for all the engineering\, safety\, cyber security\, reliability\, system planning\, mutual aid and operations for the associations 2000+ municipal utilities operating in the United States. \nMike is a Professional Engineer with an Electrical Engineering degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia\, is co-inventor on three US Patents\, and now resides in Nashua\, NH. Mike has been married to his wife Colleen for over 33 years. SUMMARY:Advanced Lineworker Program (Session I)
DESCRIPTION:NEPPA’s Advanced Lineworker Program is held 3-days/week for 4 weeks/year. It is designed to equip participants with the knowledge\, skills and resources necessary to build\, maintain\, troubleshoot and repair a distribution system. In addition to in-class lecture\, the Advanced Lineworker Program incorporates hands-on application of concepts\, facility tours\, and weekly testing\, including a final exam to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the course content.
