Open Position Title: First Class Lineman
Location: 725 Front Street, Chicopee, MA 01020
Industry: Municipal Electric/Fiber Broadband
Salary: 30.00/hr. – 57.07/hr. (based on experience)
General Statement:
Position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the overhead and underground high voltage electric distribution systems within the municipal electric service territory. The position ensures safe, reliable delivery of electric service to homes, businesses, and institutions throughout the community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working live secondary conductors and equipment, up to 600 volts, as directed.
- Work on live primary conductors and equipment, up to 13,800 Volts.
- Install transformers, switches, and associated equipment.
- Install overhead conductors and devices and underground cables and devices including necessary splicing.
- Operate motor vehicles and associated hydraulic utility equipment.
- Set utility poles and supporting fixtures.
- Respond to emergency outages and storms, restoring service safely and efficiently.
- Interpret electrical construction drawings, system maps, and schematics.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment status.
- Assist in the instruction and supervision of apprentice linemen.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Perform labor, maintenance work, and related duties as directed.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum high school education - Minimum of four (4) years practical experience as a lineman in electrical power utility or contracting field.
- Must have successfully completed an industry recognized instructional program which qualifies person as a 1st Class Lineman, Journeyman or equivalent or must have 2 years work experience as a 1st Class Journeyman or equivalent.
- Any formal electrical training beyond high school may be directly substituted for experience on a 1 to 1 ratio.
Abilities and Skills:
- Ability to operate vehicles and associated hydraulic equipment related to the electrical utility business.
- Ability to respond to after hour emergency calls.
Additional Requirements:
- Must obtain a Class 1B and 2A MA Hoisting license within (120) days of employment.
- Must possess MA CDL (A) Drivers License or must obtain within (30) days of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain security clearance at all CEL service areas.
- Must be physically able to perform all line duties especially climbing wooden poles.
