New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC, www.nhec.com), a growing, member-owned rural electric cooperative has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to fulfill the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). NHEC serves over 86,000 meters along 6,000 miles of line crossing 118 communities throughout New Hampshire. Annual revenues are in excess of $150 million. The Cooperative employs 250 employees, 20+ who are situated under the CFO’s areas of responsibility. NHEC also owns NH Broadband, LLC to ensure all its members have access to high speed internet service.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to these departments: Accounting & Financial Reporting, Finance, Consumer Accounting (Credit & Billing), Financial Planning & Analysis, Rates, and Treasury. The CFO is an important member of the Executive management team and reports directly to the CEO. This position participates in NHEC’s strategic planning and execution process and provides leadership in establishing the financial strategy at the Cooperative.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar discipline. An advanced degree in Finance, Business or other relevant business field is desirable. It is preferred that the individual shall have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a progressively responsible financial and accounting position. Five years’ utility experience, preferably with a rural electric cooperative, is desired. Demonstrated strong leadership, communication and analytical skills are required. Must be effective in organizing, planning, directing, and controlling. Must have a working knowledge of GAAP, including those promulgated by the FASB. Must have exposure to FERC’s Uniform Systems of Accounts. Should be thoroughly familiar with the principles of budgeting, controls, utility plant accounting, rate design, risk management, and debt and investment portfolio management. Must be able to testify on rates, loan applications, and other financial data before the Board and regulatory commissions.
