There is one vacancy for the position of Electric Station Operator. This position reports to the Chief Engineer and the Assistant Chief Engineer. The wage range is $55.49 per hour minimum, and $65.28 per hour maximum. Future wage levels are subject to labor negotiations.
Duties of Position:
- Controls electrical operation of the generating station, substations and other power generating equipment.
- Operates and monitors equipment such as a computerized distribution SCADA system, switchboards, high voltage circuit breakers, voltage regulators, relays, indicating meter, recording meters, and other electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Cooperates with the Watch Engineer on the best methods to control station loads.
- Synchronizes, controls, and disconnects the generators in accordance with loading schedules and procedures.
- Perform tests of equipment and keep records of tests.
- Records historical data as required for designated electrical equipment.
- Keeps an accurate report of all switching operations and holds contemporary diagrams showing position of all transmission and distribution switches.
- Keeps accurate records of the generating station electrical operation in the logbooks, log sheets and load curves.
- Answers telephone and two-way radios, as well as relays messages. Notifies the Watch Engineer of generating station alarms.
- Performs, coordinates, and documents switching of circuits for equipment maintenance and emergency service restoration.
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment in the generating station and substations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Works scheduled and emergency overtime.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be capable of performing the duties as described above, reading and interpreting system circuit diagrams, and be able to learn emergency service restoration procedures. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license and must be capable of distinguishing colors. At least four years’ experience in the electrical/power technological field is required. Applicants must have excellent oral and written skills, as well as good computer skills. SCADA system or DCS experience is preferred. Possession of a Journeyman Electrician’s License is also preferred.
