Phoenix Communications Inc., was established in August 2000 and has grown to become a leading provider of fiber optic construction services to the telecommunications industry and municipalities from New England to the Mid-Atlantic. Phoenix currently has more than 200 employees in our Massachusetts and Virginia offices. We provide a full suite of fiber optic services from engineering and splicing to fiber placement and civil construction both in the communications and power space.

Job Description
Reporting directly to the Director of Safety, the Field Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in ensuring that employees and subcontractors under Phoenix Communications, Inc., and affiliate companies perform work in compliance with Safety policies and procedures.
Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
- Promoting safety consciousness and adherence to OSHA, MAD, utility, federal, state and local safety requirements while driving a “Safety First” culture
- Conducting routine field/warehouse/office safety, health, and environmental audits, intervening with at-risk behaviors
- Inspecting, coordinating, and maintaining facility/vehicle safety equipment, such fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, AED’s, and First Aid kits
- Responding to questions from the field, visiting job sites as needed and providing field training on an ongoing basis
- Performing routine record keeping, internal compliance audits, and external 3rd party reporting requirements
- Participating in incident investigations and near miss instances to include assessing factors onsite, preparing incident reports, and assisting in root cause analysis
- Assisting with Safety Training and New Hire Orientation
- Participating in the purchasing and maintenance of PPE and safety equipment
- Providing support and assistance on special projects as assigned by the Director of Safety
Job Requirements
- Associates/Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred, but not required
- 1-3 years Safety experience, preferably in the utility/construction industry or 3+ years Field utility/construction experience
- Working knowledge of OSHA Standards CFR1926, CFR1910, and DOT Requirements
- Familiarity with ANSI, ASTM, NIOSH, CDC, NFPA, and NESC
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication skills
- Good time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Valid Driver’s License
