The Town of Ashland seeks eligible candidates for the positions of First Class Lineman and Apprentice Lineman to ensure the successful delivery of electricity to a community of 2,200 residents within the Municipal Electric Department. Ashland is a picturesque rural community near the geographical center of New Hampshire nestled within the Lakes Region and on the southern edge of the White Mountains.

To accomplish this, the Ashland Electric Department intends to add two team-oriented employees that are willing to contribute to establishing a culture of excellence.  Ashland Electric Department seeks candidates for the following two positions:

First Class Lineman

This is a full-time, hourly, regular union position operating out of the utilities building. This position’s regular hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. Additional overtime and on-call hours may be required to ensure 24/7 electricity to our customers.

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent, two to five years of vocational training in electric power and distribution systems, line school graduate desired; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have at least a CDL B license.

Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in utility line maintenance and operations and construction preferred. Successful completion of the NEPPA Lineworker training, or similar program. Certification as a First Class Lineworker desired.

Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to work independently and complete reports and forms with little to no supervision. Working knowledge of maintenance, operations and construction of overhead and underground electric distribution lines is a must. Ability to read schematic instruction manuals and drawings. Capable of performing maintenance or replacement of meters, transformers, voltage regulators, oil and electronic reclosers and capacitors. Individual should be organized, planning tasks, able to supervise and train apprentice linemen in the field, and possess in-depth knowledge of utility regulations as required by state and federal law. Strong communication and interpersonal skills desired. Proficiency in operating electric department vehicles and equipment. Ability to work inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and education with an hourly range of $33.25 to $39.39. Position also includes group benefits: medical, dental, life and disability insurance, and retirement through NH Retirement System.

Apprentice Lineman

This is a full-time, hourly, regular union position operating out of the utilities building. This position’s regular hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. Additional overtime and on-call hours may be required to ensure 24/7 electricity to our customers.

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent, some vocational training in electric power and distribution systems knowledge and education preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a CDL B license a plus, but not required.

Experience: Experience in utility line maintenance and operations and construction desired. Enrollment in the NEPPA Lineworker training, or similar program desirable. Successful completion of this program during employment will be a requirement.

Knowledge and Abilities: Working knowledge of maintenance, operations, and construction of overhead and underground electric distribution lines desired, including maintenance or replacement of meters, transformers, voltage regulators, oil and electronic reclosers and capacitors a plus. Ability to read schematic instruction manuals and drawings. Individual should be organized, capable of following plans, team-work oriented, be able to communicate clearly and efficiently, and possess knowledge of utility regulations as required by state and federal law. Knowledge of or ability to operate electric department vehicles and equipment. Ability to work inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and education with an hourly range of $19.25 to $25.75. Position also includes group benefits: medical, dental, life and disability insurance, and retirement through NH Retirement System.
