MGED is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Apprentice to First Class Line worker. Candidates may be considered at varying levels based on experience, qualifications, licenses, and demonstrated abilities.
WAGES: $40.01-$58.98/ hour based on qualifications & experience
Job Type: Full Time, 40.00 Hours, and requires overtime.
Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:00 AM- 3:00 PM
Retirement: PCR Group 4
QUALIFICATIONS:
Apprentice Line worker
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
- Valid Massachusetts 1B Hoisting License.
- Good mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Basic understanding and working knowledge of electricity preferred.
- Must possess the physical strength, flexibility, maneuverability, and mental capability required to perform strenuous work under emergency and all-weather conditions.
- Ability and willingness to obtain a Massachusetts Class A CDL within one (1) year of employment.
Advanced / First Class Line worker
- All requirements listed above as well as.
- Demonstrated experience climbing utility poles
- Ability to operate bucket and digger derrick vehicles.
- Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems and maintenance practices.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in electric utility construction and maintenance with a utility company or power line contractor strongly preferred.
- Experience utilizing rubber gloves from vehicle buckets while working on energized conductors of 13,800-volt primary and 120/240/208/277/480-volt secondary systems preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Electric Division Manager, or designee, employees in this position will be responsible for learning and/or performing all aspects of high-voltage electric distribution line work, both overhead and underground.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Apprentice Line worker
- Assignment to a line crew for on-the-job training in overhead and underground electric distribution system installation and maintenance.
- Participation in all safety training programs and exercises.
- Class A CDL License- must be obtained within one year of start of apprenticeship
- Enrollment in the current New England Public Power Association (NEPPA) line worker-training program.
- Completion of an accredited electrical line worker certification program, vocational lineman school or equivalent technical trade school (preferred)
- Pre-employment drug / alcohol screening required.
- Any other related work as assigned.
Advanced / First Class Line worker
A thorough understanding and completion of all items listed above as well as:
- Construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electric facilities, including working on energized conductors from poles and vehicle buckets using rubber gloves, location and repairing faults.
- Ability to operate department’s equipment.
- Be familiar with various types of service connections and meter connections as they apply to the work.
- Perform all types of switching on distribution and transmission circuits as required.
- Responsible for truck stock and additional material required to perform work.
- Applicant will be expected to work overtime in accordance with Department requirements.
- Live within service territory.
- Participation in all safety training programs and exercises.
- Any other duties as assigned.
