The Town of Hardwick Electric Department (HED) is a small rural not-for-profit municipal electric utility that serves 4,600 customers in eleven towns and communities in Vermont.
HED is seeking experienced First-Class Journeyman line workers to fill vacancies in our crew. Candidates with less experience will be fully considered.
Operations staff maintain and improve 325 miles of overhead and underground power transmission and distribution lines, and work closely to provide safe, affordable, and reliable energy services. Within their level of experience and knowledge, line workers perform their duties under the general direction of the Working Foreman. The single most important of those duties is to initiate, develop, and maintain positive/collaborative/respectful/and professional relationships with HED co-workers. Characteristics of ideal candidates will include adaptability, a willingness to acquire new skills, a professional attitude, a great work ethic, and attention to safe work practices/policies.
Candidates must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the position, and work will be required under inclement conditions for extended hours. All crew members participate in an on-call rotation and are expected to be available when system disturbances occur or are predicted. Candidates shall possess or be able to obtain a Vermont Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment. All crew members must be able to respond to the HED operations building – in the Town of Hardwick - within 30 minutes while on call. After six months all crew members must join the IBEW union membership.
Standard background checks, a standard physical, and DOT drug testing are required with all new employees at HED. All new employees filling union positions complete their first six months of employment under probationary status.
