MMLD serves approximately 10,300 electric customers through a system supplied by dedicated twin 23kV transmission lines, four substations, and a 4kV distribution network.
General Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Distribution, Working Foreman and/or Lead Lineworker, perform duties associated with the construction, operation, maintenance and restoration of MMLD's electric distribution system in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform construction, maintenance and repair activities on overhead and underground secondary distribution systems and assist on primary systems.
- Erect poles, install transformers, run and sag conductors, install underground conduit and related apparatus.
- Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks and line equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
- Respond to outages and emergencies and participate in storm restoration activities.
- Read and interpret switching orders, maps and construction drawings.
- Perform all duties in accordance with MMLD policies and applicable safety standards.
Preparation, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or trade school education and up to three years of progressively responsible line experience or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
- Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License required.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and in adverse weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of electric distribution construction and maintenance practices.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Regular work outdoors in all weather conditions and during emergency response situations.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, lifting and physically demanding work, including aloft via aerial bucket or climbing harness.
- Regular exposure to electric voltages up to 23kV and utility construction hazards.
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing 50–80 pounds and more with assistance.
- Participation in an on-call rotation and availability for overtime and emergency assignments.
