Description
The T&D Substation Technician is primarily responsible for all equipment on WEC’s substations, ensuring it is monitored and maintained at a level that provides minimal down time to the system. This position will assist with designing, constructing, installing, maintaining, and managing the metering, recloser controls, regulator controls and other related electrical devices in the substations. The applicant will also coordinate and assist in our pole inspection program and will work with operations supervisors to plan and coordinate substation outages as well as perform critical switching and tagging within WEC’s substations, transmission lines and distribution system. Inspection of OCR’s annually, serving as primary switch operator in substations and monthly inspections of the substations are also essential duties of the position. The applicant also assists with dispatching operations staff for routine and emergency outage restoration efforts.
Qualified applicants must have an associate’s degree in electrical engineering or related field or 5 years of directly related experience in the utility industry. Must possess a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code and sound knowledge of electrical and/or electronic principals. Must also demonstrate proficient knowledge of computer applications as required.
