Safety Orientation Program (Introduction to Electrical Hazards & Safety Training)

NEPPA is pleased to continue to offer the Safety Orientation Program, formerly called “Introduction to Electrical Hazards & Safety Training”. This course will be held on September 24 – 26 at the NEPPA Training Center (200 New Estate Road, Littleton, MA 01460).

 

The Safety Orientation Program is designed for new hires in the electric and telecommunications industries. This is also great for anyone who needs to make-up training. Participants may elect to attend one, two or all three days of the program.

Topics covered in this program meet the introductory standards required to enter these industries. Over the course of their employment, participants will require further training for each work duty and responsibility.

 

NOTE: In addition to the topics covered in this program, each employer is responsible for the site-specific training of any new hire or employee. See Employer Responsibilities below.


Upon successful completion of each day of the program, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion.

    • NOTE: Employer must provide truck-specific training on operations and controls of their equipment.
  • Enclosed/Confined Space Rescue (incl. rescue procedure)
    • NOTE: Employer must provide equipment-specific training.
  • Electrical Hazard Awareness
    • NOTE: Only qualified employees may work on or with exposed energized lines or parts of equipment.
    • Recognition of electrical hazards
    • Skills & Techniques to control or avoid hazards
    • Minimum Approach Distances and corresponding voltages
    • Skills & Techniques to distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electric equipment
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

Testing & Demonstrations

Final Exam (25 Questions)

All participants are required to demonstrate and perform a pole top, bucket and enclosed/confined space rescue.
NOTE: Only individuals qualified to climb will perform a pole top rescue.

Employer Responsibilities

While this program provides awareness and general safety training required for and to begin employment, the employer is still responsible for providing tool, equipment, and site-specific training for each employee.

Employer-specific training includes but is not limited to:

  • Site-specific Safety Data Sheets
  • Written emergency action plans
  • Tool-specific training
  • Use of job-specific PPE including harnesses
  • Utility-specific bucket trucks and/or rescue equipment, etc.

NOTE: Only qualified employees may work on or with exposed energized lines or parts of equipment.

Course Prerequisites

There is no prerequisite for this course however only individuals qualified to climb will perform a pole top rescue.

This is a basic, foundational course for NEPPA’s technical training programs.

Anthony Calascibetta, CUSP

Director of Safety & Training

Anthony is NEPPA’s Director of Safety & Training. He has 40 years of Electrical experience and 25 years of Electric Utility experience. Starting out as a Lineworker, he moved to the Substation Division as a Lead Substation Technician.

He is proficient in relay testing, transformer testing, circuit breaker testing, and all aspects of wiring in overhead, underground, metering, and substations.

Anthony is an OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer, and OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer.
