Description
Job Summary: GML Utility Services Cooperative is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Pole Testing Technician to join our field operations team. The technician will perform structural integrity testing on wooden electric utility poles using specialized equipment, including a pole testing drill.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections and structural integrity tests on wood utility poles using industry-standard tools and a pole testing drill.
- Accurately identify and record internal decay, rot, insect damage, and other structural defects.
- Operate handheld or portable testing equipment to measure pole strength and integrity.
- Interpret results and document findings clearly using digital reporting tools or inspection forms.
- Mark poles for treatment, reinforcement, or replacement based on test results.
- Follow all safety procedures while working around energized lines and traffic.
- Communicate effectively with utility personnel and other field team members.
- Maintain and calibrate testing tools and equipment.
- Complete daily work logs and inspection reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Travel to various sites daily and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable using power tools, including drills, and working outdoors.
- Ability to read maps, navigate to remote pole locations, and identify pole numbers.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Basic computer or mobile device skills for report entry.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs) and walk in rugged terrain
