2026 Substation II Program (Session IV)

In addition to in-class lecture, the Substation II Program incorporates hands-on application of concepts and testing, building, and manipulating a relay panel, and weekly testing including a final exam to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the course content.
SESSION DATES & HOURS

Unless otherwise noted, sessions are held in-person from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm Tuesday – Thursday.
Session I: September 22nd – 24th, 2026
Session II: October 6th – October 8th, 2026
Session III: October 20th – 22nd, 2026
Session IV: November 3rd – November 5th, 2026
LOCATION
All in-person classes will be held at NEPPA’s Training Center. Additional field visits may be arranged and will be communicated in advance of the session.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This program is designed for those who are responsible for working in or maintaining utility substations or those who wish to expand their knowledge to grow into a substation role.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the Program, Substation II participants should be able to:
- Apply concepts to design, build, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a substation.
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding and knowledge of applicable standards, specifications and regulations such as OSHA, the NESC, and NERC/CIP.
- Practice safely entering, exiting and performing maintenance in a substation.
- Apply advanced concepts of the substation’s role in a distribution system including testing and programming.
- Demonstrate ability to test and program equipment found in a substation, including applicable safety precautions and PPE
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of SCADA, as well as switching and tagging.
- Demonstrate an applied understanding of how to operate and interpret relay functions.

COURSE PREREQUISITES
In order to be successful in the Substation II Program, students must first complete the Substation I Program.
REGISTRATION
2026 Registration fees include coffee and lunch each day. If you have any dietary restrictions or considerations, please make note on your registration.
Members: $3,100
Non-Members: $4,600
Cancellations are accepted until on month prior to the start of the program. Substitutions are not accepted.
