Belmont Municipal Light Department - Apprentice Lineworker

STARTING PAY RANGE: $34.05/hour to $38.68/hour

OPEN UNTIL APRIL 3RD, 2026

Belmont Municipal Light Department (Belmont Light) is accepting applications for a full-time (40
hours/week) Apprentice Lineworker. This position will be part of the IBEW Local 104 group. The
starting salary of the hire will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The primary duties/requirements of the position are:
• safely installing, maintaining and repairing underground and overhead lines part of Belmont’s
5kV and 15kV electrical distribution system
• erecting and setting poles
• installing and replacing transformers, switches and other devices
• comprehending and executing system switching orders
• having the ability to climb poles and operate bucket trucks and other aerial lift equipment as
well as passing the appropriate hoisting/CDL. tests
• working in and around confined spaces and open trenches while assisting with underground conduit
repairs
• having the ability to work in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time
The line worker will also participate in a stand-by on call rotation to respond to emergencies and
will respond to public inquiries, requests and feedback related to linework activities.

Furthermore, the lineworker will be installing and removing banners, holiday lighting and
decorations, ensuring that vehicles are properly stocked and maintained for all operations and
performing tree-trimming duties as required. Please note that significant emphasis will be placed
on work related to underground infrastructure in enclosed and confined spaces, due to the fact that
underground facilities make up over two thirds of Belmont’s electric system.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates with a high school diploma, relevant vocational/technical training, and previous line
work experience preferred. Other relevant experience also considered. Position requires High
Voltage Line Worker Certification and possession of or ability to attain a valid Class “B” MA
Commercial Driver’s License; Class “A” License expected to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
Subject to federal drug and alcohol testing requirements.

PAY RANGE:
The starting salary range is $34.05 to $38.68 per hour, with the ability to move to the top rate
via the step system after hiring, which for 2026 set at $64.09/hour.

The position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the
Massachusetts State employee retirement system and a 457b plan matching program.
