Senior Accountant
Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative (“CMEEC”), located in Norwich, CT, is a joint action agency formed by municipal electric utilities to procure electric products and services. CMEEC is currently seeking an experienced Senior Accountant within the Finance and Accounting Department. This position’s primary responsibility is to support the Director of Finance & Accounting in overseeing accounting operations, internal controls, reporting activities and compliance functions. The position requires the ability to manage the General Ledger, provide high-level audit support including being comfortable giving presentations to the Audit Committee, and respond to departmental and organizational needs as they arise.
Primary Responsibilities
• Maintain accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and support timely month-end and year-end close processes
• Lead the annual external audit process, including preparation of audit selections, coordination with auditors, and resolution of audit findings
• Serve as the primary liaison to the Audit Committee, prepare materials, respond to inquiries and be comfortable with giving presentations to the committee
• Review and approve journal entries (JEs) to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Review monthly outgoing bills for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation
• Review and approve invoice payments
• Serve as the General Ledger Administrator, including system oversight, user access management, troubleshooting, and process optimization
• Manage the department’s compliance calendar to ensure timely completion of all required filings and reporting obligations
• Stay informed of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) updates and assess their impact on financial reporting
• Knowledge and tracking relating to GASB 87 and 96
• Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus 10 years of experience
• Strong knowledge of GASB standards
• Experience leading external audits
• Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Business Central a plus
• Proficient in the entire Microsoft Office Suite of products including Excel, Outlook, and Word

Working Conditions
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities

hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand or to walk and reach with hands and arms.
Salary
Commensurate with knowledge and experience.
