Metering I Program
Metering I is a 2-day course held Tuesday, March 25th – Wednesday, March 26th, 2025 from 8am – 3pm at the
NEPPA Training Center (200 New Estate Road, Littleton, MA 01460)
NEPPA’s Metering I Program is designed to be an introduction to the fundamentals of meter equipment and safety. The Program will introduce how meters are used as an integral part of the distribution system and why their accurate and efficient readings are critical to a utility’s success.
Upon successful completion of the Program, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is designed for:
• Intermediate or transitioning Meter Technicians
• Lineworkers
• Supervisors or Managers transitioning from other departments
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to successfully:

- Demonstrate a foundational/introductory knowledge of meter use, demand and digital vs. analog meters.
- Practice hands-on safe installation and removal of a meter.
- Calculate and demonstrate the safe measurement of electricity.
- Recognize meter theft, revenue protection controls, and how to safely install service and conduct inspections.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of net metering, demand metering and reverse metering.
- Accurately identify faulty equipment and troubleshoot solutions
COURSE PREREQUISITES
Students are expected to have completed NEPPA’s Basic Electricity and Mathematics for Utility Operations course and/or demonstrate a solid understanding of basic electricity concepts, theory and mathematics through prequalification testing.
TESTING
This Program includes a Final Exam to demonstrate comprehension of the material (25 Questions).

- Meter Socket Checks Handbook
* Materials will be provided for participants who have not already received equipment in other programs.

REGISTRATION
2025 Registration fees includes supplemental materials listed above and lunch each day.
Members: $1,000
Non-Members: $1,550
Cancellations are accepted until two-weeks prior to the start of the program. Substitutions may be made at any time prior to the first session.

INSTRUCTOR
Tim Richardson
P.E, Technical & Safety Trainer
Tim Richardson joined NEPPA in September of 2019 and has been an asset to the training team. Tim has a long history working in the electric utility industry, Belmont Municipal Light Department from 1995 – 2007. There he served in many management capacity including General Manager.
Most recently, Tim has worked as Principal of Fundy Power Services, LLC. and at Consulting Engineers Group prior to that. Tim brings a wealth of both technical and safety expertise to the organization and applies his expertise of both in a n easy-to-understand and easy-to-learn approach.
