Title: 2nd Class Lineman
Salary: 20.00/hr. – 49.41/hr.
General Statement:
Positions are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the overhead and underground high voltage electric distribution systems within the municipal electric service territory. The position ensures safe, reliable delivery of electric service to homes, businesses, and institutions throughout the community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working live secondary conductors and equipment, up to 600 volts, as directed.
- Work on live primary conductors and equipment in conjunction with a 1st Class Lineman
- Install overhead conductors and devices and underground cables and devices including necessary splicing.
- Performs labor functions associated with construction, operation, maintenance of an electrical distribution systems.
- Operate motor vehicles and associated hydraulic utility equipment.
- Set utility poles and supporting fixtures.
- When qualified, participates in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Perform labor, maintenance work, and related duties as directed.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of two (2) years practical experience as a lineman in electrical power utility or contracting field and/or certification of completion in a Lineman Training Program.
- Any formal electrical training beyond high school may be directly substituted for experience on a 1 to 1 ratio.
Abilities and Skills:
- Ability to operate vehicles and associated hydraulic equipment related to the electrical utility business.
- Ability to respond to after hour emergency calls when qualified.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess or obtain a Class 1B and 2A MA Hoisting license within (120) days of employment.
- Must possess a MA CDL (A) Drivers License or must obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Required to obtain and maintain security clearance at all CEL service areas.
- Required to live within a reasonable proximity of Chicopee, MA as defined in Union Contract or be willing to relocate to meet CEL’s residency requirements.
- Must be physically able to perform all line job duties especially climbing wooden poles.
