Position: Accounting Assistant
Description:
The purpose of this position is to perform administrative, accounting, financial record-keeping, and clerical work of substantial difficulty for the Paxton Municipal Light Department. Duties include managing accounting, payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, jobbing, inventory and other related work as required. The Accounting Assistant is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control. Ensures the accuracy and timely payments of all bills and invoices. Prepare documents as required for annual reports and audit. Provides customer service to electric, water, and trash customers. Maintains computer-associated files and records. Performs similar or office related work as required, directed, or as situation dictates. Works under the direct supervision of the General Manager and collaborates closely with the General Foreman on job billing, inventory, and payroll matters.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of associate’s degree in accounting or related work field. Four years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial record keeping, or administrative work preferred. Good working knowledge of bookkeeping and financial record keeping. Ability to utilize a wide variety of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with employees, town officials, and the public. Ability to think critically and solve problems and work well under pressure and critical deadlines.
This is a forty-hour per week position, Monday - Friday 8 AM to 4 PM. Starting salary range is $29.82 to $34.63/hour based on qualifications.
