Operator and Maintenance A

The Town of Hudson Light & Power Department, located in Hudson Massachusetts, has an opening for a qualified individual to train for Operator and Maintenance A

position at the Cherry Street Generating Station.  The Operator & Maintenance A position shall assist the Department in maintaining and operating the generators for the production of electricity and operating and maintaining the general plant, substations, switchyards and transmission systems for the safe, efficient and reliable delivery of electricity to the HLPD customers.

DUTIES (to include but not be limited to the following):

1. Operate generating equipment.
2. Install, repair and maintain diesel engines and related ancillary equipment.
3. Construct, operate and maintain substations and switchyards.
4. Read diagrams and drawings.
5. Keep accurate and intelligible records as required by the Power Plant Supervisor.
6. Supervise, train and assist lower grade personnel.
7. Assist in the constructing and maintaining of the General Plant and distribution system.
8. Assist in Customer Relations and Public Relations.
9. Assist meter department during cuts, installs, transfers, removals, etc.
10. Perform building and ground maintenance work as required.
11. Operate all station related equipment and motor vehicles and train others to operate this equipment.
12. Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, perform necessary switching and servicing in connection with the operation of the power plant, substations and switchgear.
13. Perform duties as an On-Call man on a rotating basis.
14. Be available for emergency calls during non-working hours.
15. Perform the duties of any shift personnel and/or Oiler as required.
16. May be required to work alone on shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Have the ability to perform heavy physical work indoors or outdoors in all seasons and at time for extended periods.
2. Be able to understand all hazards associated with working in a power plant, substation and 115kV switchyard.
3. Have a mechanical aptitude and a working knowledge of mechanical equipment.
4. Have an electrical aptitude and working knowledge of various electrical equipment.
5. Must have or be able to obtain a valid Massachusetts CDL Driver's License with HAZ-MAT endorsement if required.
6. Have a High School, Trade School, or equivalent education.
7. Have a valid Massachusetts Hoisting License in order to operate the gantry crane.
8. Have complete knowledge of the entire Light Department operation.
9. Have the ability to supervise and train others.
10. Have the ability to perform all the duties of any shift personnel.
