POSITION DESCRIPTION
Electric/Meter Technician A (2024)

Meter/Electric Operations and Engineering

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Experienced in all types of meter programming, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Skilled in electric meter installation practices to include inspections for proper
functionality, identifying malfunctions, tampering, broken components locks and seals.
• Must have the computer skills to monitor and maintains watt-hour meters, power factor meters
and other electrical measuring devices using the various AMI systems, data base and software.
• Experienced in utility meter operations; testing and checking accuracy and identifying
irregularities on self-contained and transformer rated metering to include current and potential
transformers.
• Required to respond to power quality calls in the field, assessing overall electric service
and metering conditions. Must be skilled in performing voltage and current checks using various
testing equipment.
• Must perform on-site installation of current and potential transformers and associated wiring
for transformer rated services for the following voltage ranges; 208/120V, 480/277V and 15kV
primary metering.
• Must be available for emergencies and storm conditions to identify downed wires and utility
equipment.
• Required to create and complete reports and work orders and submit to the departments General
Foreman, Customer Service, Billing and Operations Manager when appropriate.

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Must have a valid Massachusetts Drivers License. Must have
the ability to do math functions such as Algebra and Trigonometry.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Be prepared for frequent physical effort demanded in walking and climbing over rough terrain.
Exposure to inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Be able to lift 50 lbs.
