Position Summary:
Monitors, oversees and coordinates normal and emergency Operations activities consistent with NHEC’s policies and procedures utilizing various data, control, and communication systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations Coordinator 1 (24 ‐ 36 months)
- CADD‐LT training. Assisting in maintaining 1-Line, 3-Line and District Switching Diagrams. This would include other utility 1-lines in the NHEC system.
- SEL Software training: relay target interpretation to help field personnel with troubleshooting.
- OMS data integrity.
- Participating in Microsoft Office or other job-related training as provided by NHEC.
- Proficiency in all aspects of SCADA including but not limited to SCADA switching.
- Completing academic requirements of the Operations Coordinator Training Program
Operations Coordinator 2 (12 ‐ 24months)
- Participating in NHEC provided training as it pertains to the Operations Coordinators position.
- Updating equipment database.
- Evaluating system ties and working with Engineering to update Contingency Plans.
- Successfully completing academic requirements of the Operations Coordinator Training Program.
Operations Coordinator 3 (0 – 12 months)
- Ninety (90) days of mentor training.
- Continued on-the-job (OTJ) training with current Control Center systems and procedures/policies.
- Participating in Microsoft office training as it pertains to the Operations Coordinator position
- Successfully completing academic requirements of the Operations Coordinator Training Program.
- Becoming proficient with NISC, ARCOS, radio, phone, and SCADA systems
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and monitoring: activities of Operations Personnel, Energy Control systems and procedures, Outage Management System, and communication systems as required for construction, maintenance, and outage restoration consistent with NHEC’s Safety Procedures, and Restoration Plan.
- Monitoring security and fire alarm systems and initiating response according to established procedures.
- Creating emergency DigSafe tickets as required.
- Responding to member complaints/concerns or assisting the member in reaching the
- department or section to which concerns should be addressed.
- Supporting the Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Values of New Hampshire Electric Cooperative.
- Other duties as assigned.
External Contacts:
- Members: Responds to member inquiries in a courteous manner and resolves problems and/or directs to supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- General Public: Maintains good relations in all contacts with general public.
- First Responders: Communicate with first responders and dispatch centers in a courteous and professional manner. Be able to assist them with the proper utility if the issue is not related to NHEC.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma required. Associates degree in Electrical Technology or Electrical Theory preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years as an Apprentice or 1st Class Lineworker or 3 years’ experience as a Control Center Operator for an electric utility. Electrical switching or control room operator experience may substitute on a year-by-year basis.
- Should possess knowledge in interpretation of circuit/system maps. work order procedures, company policies and procedures.
Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as circuit maps, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, and manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports, effectively present information, and respond to questions from managers, district personnel and employees involved in restoration efforts.
- Ability to define problems, analyze situations, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Language/Communication Skills:
Able to communicate clearly and effectively with members or employees.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual will be expected to quickly develop a good working knowledge of computer systems; Experience with the use of a personal computer is desirable.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Must have the ability to work independently, without supervision, and able to make immediate and effective decisions.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to effectively coordinate functions of the Communications/Control Center during demanding/stressful system outage situations which may be of extended duration.
- Must be able to maintain a calm and professional demeanor and attitude when dealing with members and other employees.
- Must have the ability to maintain accurate reports and records.
- Must have excellent telephone and two‐way radio skills.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. Must have adequate capacity of hands and fingers, hearing, and be able to speak clearly, to perform duties of position.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
This position is a 24-hour rotating shift position, which includes shifts of up to 12 hours in duration and includes weekends and holidays. The length and use of either rotating, fixed or combination shift will be worked out with staff in a manner that address employee desires and operating needs.
Assistance with power restoration efforts is required of all employees. Depending on the severity and duration of power outages, employees may be required to assume duties and work hours that are outside of their normal working conditions. Such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays and may involve considerable extra hours. In order to meet this working condition, all employees are required to provide a personal phone number where they may be reached after hours. This number will only be used for internal purposes.
