Advanced Lineworker Program

NEPPA’s Advanced Lineworker Program is held 3-days/week for 4 weeks/year. It is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to build, maintain, troubleshoot and repair a distribution system. In addition to in-class lecture, the Advanced Lineworker Program incorporates hands-on application of concepts, facility tours, and weekly testing, including a final exam to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the course content. Upon successful completion of the Program, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion.

SESSION DATES & HOURS

This 12-day program is held Tuesday – Thursday from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm each day.

Session dates are subject to change, however advance notice will be provided.

Session I: August 12-14, 2025

Session II:  August 26-28, 2025

Session III: September 9-11, 2025

Session IV: September 23-25, 2025

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is designed for individuals with 5+ years of experience as a lineworker, lineworkers with increased crew or leadership responsibilities, or cross departmental employees with new or increased leadership of lineworker personnel. There are no prerequistes for this program.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this four-week program, participants will be able to successfully:

  1. Demonstrate a holistic understanding of Transmission & Distribution and overall operations including:

a. NESC
b. Overhead Distribution
c. Underground Distribution
d. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) & Energy Storage

  1. Apply concepts to build, maintain, troubleshoot and repair a distribution system.
  2. Demonstrated ability to correctly diagnose and repair a fault.
  3. Explain the how and why of a distribution system’s design.
  4. Apply leadership and crew leadership best practices.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS

Participants will be provided with a student binder with module printouts and a program t-shirt.

 

We ask all participants to bring the following items to class. If a student does not have access to one of these items, they can let us know and we will provide them, as supplies last.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

In order to receive a full Certificate of Completion, students are required to attend all 12-days of the Program. Any absences will be noted as a partial completion of the Program.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations are accepted until Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Substitutions may be made at any time prior to the first session.

Cancellation fees will be charged based on the following schedule:

2 weeks prior to the 1st scheduled week of class = 100% refund of tuition

Before completion of the 1st scheduled week of class = 75% refund of tuition

Before the completion of the 2nd scheduled week of class = 50% refund of tuition

After the 2nd scheduled week of class = 0% refund of tuition

REGISTRATION

Registration fee includes lunch and breaks each day and supplemental materials listed above.

INSTRUCTORS

Codie Perry

Codie Perry

Manager of Safety & Training, Northeast Public Power Association

Codie graduated from Pratt Community College Line School in 2014 with an associate degree in Electrical Power Technology. He then worked for Kay Electric Cooperative in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where he spent 11 years. In that time, he received his Lineworker Certificate from Northwest Lineman College. In 2019, Codie received the “Above and Beyond” Award from the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives for providing emergency care for an individual in a vehicle accident while he was on the job. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors and spending time with my family. Codie is NEPPA’s Manager of Safety and Training, moving to New Hampshire in early 2025 to join the NEPPA team.

Dan Flynn

Dan Flynn

Trainer, Northeast Public Power Association

Dan Flynn has been a safety trainer with Northeast Public Power Association, since September 2018 after retiring from Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Dept with more than a 40-year career in public power. Dan is a Certified First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor.

Dan started in the electric meter department in the 1970’s and worked his way through the electric line department as a lineman/line foremen and his last position as the electric department superintendent. Some of Dan’s responsibilities included construction, maintenance, and safety of the electric line division. Dan continues to maintain his 1B/2A Mass. hoisting license and a Mass. Class A Driving license.

Dan lives with his wife of 43 years, Alayne, and they have two adult children and three grandchildren.

He says, “It is a privilege to continue to be involved with the public power industry in New England to give back any knowledge I’ve acquired over these many years.”
