Description
There are two vacancies for Third Class Lineman in the Transmission & Distribution Department. These positions are supervised by the General Line Foreman. The present wage scale is $39.47 per hour minimum and $46.44 per hour maximum. Future wage levels are subject to labor negotiations.
DUTIES OF POSITION:
- Performs line clearance trimming and tree removal around distribution and transmission lines in close proximity to energized conductors (up to 115,000 volts).
- Fells trees and clears brush that grow near or in contact with live lines, in accordance with accepted safety standards and practices. Assists line crews in clearing fallen trees and branches from energized conductors.
- Uses and maintains tools and equipment (e.g. rubber gloves, fire-resistant clothing, and insulating tools) needed to safely perform trimming work.
- Operates and inspects line vehicles, aerial lifts, chippers, chainsaws, and hydraulic tools. Requests maintenance as needed.
- Climbs trees to perform trimming or removal near live lines as required.
- Chips branches and brush; cleans work site and removes debris.
- Assists line crews in the installation of overhead and underground lines when assigned.
- Must be capable of performing bucket truck and tree rescue, first aid, and CPR.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Physically able to perform heavy work and exposure to inclement weather. Minimum one (1) year experience as a tree climber working on utility lines required as a certified line clearance tree trimmer, five (5) years preferred. High School diploma or equivalent is required. In addition to the experience requirement, a practical test will be administered. Demonstrated knowledge of the arboricultural standards and applicable state and local regulations for tree trimming and removal services. Must possess a Class A Massachusetts CDL driver’s license and have a good driving record. A hoisting license is preferred.
