There is one vacancy for the position of Second Class Steam Fireman in the Power Production Department. This position is under the supervision of the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer.
DUTIES OF POSITION
- Performs manual work in firing boilers, operating power generating equipment and their associated auxiliaries.
- Must be able to start and stop boilers and other power generating equipment in accordance with modern operating procedures and instructions.
- Implements lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures under the direction of the Watch Engineer.
- Keeps accurate records of the generating equipment in the log books and log sheets.
- Operates and monitors equipment using a SCADA system and pneumatic controls.
- Assists in answering incoming phone calls as situations warrant.
- Monitoring fuel delivery unloads.
- Initiates service order requests.
- Performs all related duties in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Works scheduled and emergency overtime.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Second Class Fireman's license is required. Must have demonstrated ability to operate any boiler or boilers and their auxiliaries under the engineer in direct charge. Three years of experience in a power plant operating high-pressure boilers with reheat and gas turbines is preferred. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license and must be capable of distinguishing colors. Applicant must have excellent oral and written skills, as well as good computer skills. Applicant must pass a hands-on practical skills exam during the interview and acquire a Massachusetts tow motor license within six months of appointment.
