Description
The Hudson Light and Power Department (HLPD), located in Hudson Massachusetts, is seeking to fill a full-time position in its Engineering Department. HLPD is a municipal electric utility serving the Towns of Hudson and Stow Massachusetts that offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits which include a guaranteed pension.
This position will provide electrical engineering services in support of 115,000-volt transmission system, 13,800-volt substations, distribution system, 15 MW generating station, building systems and will include power supply analysis. Duties and responsibilities will include but not limited:
- Engineering design, development, estimating, scheduling, project management and construction support for the electric distribution, transmission, generating and building systems for existing and new business and facility betterment projects under the technical supervision of the Principal Engineer and/or Operations Manager. Position shall assist in the proper operation and maintenance of controls, instrumentation, protection, SCADA, distribution, transmission, generation, and building systems, environmental compliance and power supply.
- Supervise and support the safe and efficient operation of the electric distribution system during both normal and emergency conditions; complete technical tasks issued by Principal Engineer and/or Operations Manager. Prepare and dispatch switching orders to electric distribution crews as the on-call supervisor. Develop and implement safe, effective, and structured technical operating procedures.
- Operate and maintain high voltage switchgear and transformers; responsible for high voltage troubleshooting, testing and repair; perform high voltage switching up to 115,000 volts utilizing required personal protective equipment; substation meter readings; hazardous waste disposal programs; oil testing; manage spill containment and cleanup procedures; field inspections of new distribution plant construction. Provide storm restoration support; serve on-call in a weekly rotation to address emergency, environmental situations and serious malfunctions of substations, distribution, and transmission, generation and building systems, including the direct supervision of Linemen (Troublemen), Power Plant Equipment personnel and Metermen/Electric Maintenance technicians. Provide technical and safety training; coordinate inventory purchasing; maintain technical databases and models. Provide system level planning and recommend upgrades as necessary.
The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. The successful candidate must have a minimum of a BS in Electrical Engineering and will preferably hold a Masters in Electrical Engineering. A minimum of five years prior experience with a private or municipal utility is preferred.
Candidate will work with engineering team to increase system reliability and safely operate the HLPD system. Candidate shall possess excellent oral and written communication skills and strong leadership skills required to supervise field personnel.
