Description

The Position: 

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Supervisor will supervise their home district as well as other districts as assigned in accordance with the objectives of NHEC, and thereby provide the NHEC Membership with safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric service, consistent with good business practices and utility performance standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for increasing service reliability by continually monitoring the system and developing reliability and hardening projects with Engineering.
  • Supports strategic goals of NHEC by assisting in achieving balanced scorecard objectives.
  • Supports the cultural goals of NHEC by exhibiting self-leadership, developing, and maintaining effective working relationships, having a results orientation, being innovative and seeking feedback.
  • Supports financial goals of NHEC by assisting in the development of the district annual operating budget and monitoring budget for reasonable variances.
  • Increases professional and technical knowledge by attending educational classes, reading professional magazines and books, and participating in professional societies and groups.
  • Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the Director of Operations when requested.
  • Ensures members are provided with a reliable, cost-effective distribution system by assisting in leading the construction and maintenance of the districts at NHEC and coordinating with other utilities and state and local governmental agencies.
  • Ensures quality member service by directing staff in responding to member service needs and ensuring all member complaints and inquiries are handled in a polite, courteous, and expeditious manner.
  • Coordinates in directing restoration of service in his/her district (and others as the need requires) during major outages by evaluating and analyzing conditions, and requesting additional forces when necessary, so that electric service is restored to members in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Assistance with power restoration efforts is required of all employees.  It may be required during regular business hours that employees will be assigned functions to support power restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties. In addition, such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours.  In order to meet this working condition, all employees are required to provide a personal phone number where they may be reached after hours.  This number will only be used for internal purposes.
  • Performs other duties as directed or required.

The Person: 

  • A high school graduate or equivalent required.  Additional schooling in electricity, lineman's training, technical school, or mathematics is desired.
  • Electric Cooperative experience preferred.
  • Ten years’ experience in utility line construction, maintenance, and operations on multiphase systems, both overhead and underground required.  Five years of this experience as a lead lineman or working foreman is required.
  • Should be skilled in the areas of organizing, planning, directing, budgeting, and supervising and should possess an in-depth conceptual and working knowledge of utility regulations as required by state and federal agencies.  Must be an effective communicator and hold a valid Class A Driver License and a Commercial Boating License. Should be proficient in basic personal computer skills.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of the construction, maintenance, and operations, of overhead and underground distribution lines including metering, transformers, voltage regulators, oil and electronic reclosers and capacitors.   Must have a working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code, OSHA Regulations, assembly and material specifications, construction work practices and be willing to attend courses relating to this work.  Must be able to read schematic drawings and instruction manuals.

Working Conditions:

  • Must work inside and outside, sometimes under adverse weather conditions, and long hours.  Occasional overtime is required and occasional overnight to travel to attend training sessions or to assist other utilities during major storms is required.
  • Assistance with power restoration efforts is required of all employees. Compensation: 

NHEC views compensation in a holistic and transparent manner. The salary range for this role is targeted at $$130,000-145,000.
