Underground Distribution Review - April 17th

90-minute training (8:30 am – 10 am)
Being held Wednesday, April 17th  (Date is subject to change)

This class discusses the design of underground electrical conductors with the related substructure and covers trenching and excavation. URD splicing, terminating, and marking are also discussed. Upon completion, participants will:

  • Discuss history and types of underground installations
  • Identify different conductor types, components, and cable specifications
  • Discuss cable testing and fault locating
  • Understand substructure and cable installation considerations
  • Identify best practices of pulling cables
  • Understand methods of Splicing, Terminating, & Marking

Lecture with class interaction and discussion. Where possible, trainers will incorporate inspection of utility tools and equipment, including the proper use of fault locating tools.

Personal Protective Equipment - April 18th

90-minute training (8:30 am – 10 am)
Being held Thursday, April 18th (Dates is subject to change)

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the last line of defense in the hierarchy of controls for hazards, but it is often the most visible protection during daily work.

Upon completion, participants can recognize and assess hazardous conditions and safety – related practices required including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Identify major hazards
  • Describe types of hazards
  • Protect yourself from these hazards
  • Recognize employer requirements to protect workers from these hazards

Hot Stick Safety - September 4th

90-minute training (8:30 am – 10 am)

Upon completion of this session, students will:

  • Understand the history of hotline
  • Minimum Approach Distance (MAD)
  • Types of Hot Sticks
  • Use, Care & Maintenance of Hot Sticks

Job Briefing - September 5th

90-minute training (8:30 am – 10 am)
Being held Thursday, September 5th (Date is subject to change)

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand and appreciate the importance of a Job Briefing
  • Understand employer and employee
  • Answer the following:

    – What is the purpose of a job briefing?
    – What should a job briefing include?

How many @Your Site Virtual sessions are held per year?

NEPPA offers a total of 4 @Your-Site Virtual Training sessions per year.

What is the start and end time for @Your Site Virtual trainings?

Virtual classes are 90 minutes, which includes a 15-minutes, live Q&A. They normally start at 8:30am and conclude at 10:00am.

Are the dates/times set for @Your Site trainings or do participants log in at their own convenience?

Since these are live, instructor-led sessions, participants are expected to join according to the schedule. Recordings will be made available for anyone unable to join on the specified training date. If you are looking for a more flexible, on-demand course, please see our @Your-Site Online Page.

Are @Your Site Virtual trainings live or pre-recorded?

@Your-Site Virtual Training sessions are live, instructor-led training sessions. For any registrants unable to participate live, the sessions are recorded and will be made available after the class. Recordings are available for one year after the date of broadcast. Virtual trainings are held via Zoom.

What are the Registration fees for @Your Site Virtual trainings?

Registrations fees are billed per person:

NEPPA Member:  $55 per person
Non- Member:  $110 per person 

Do you have to register as a group or individually for @Your Site Virtual trainings?

In order to receive a certificate of completion, participants need to register for the sessions individually. Certificates of completion only display the registrant’s name. That being said, you do have the ability to register multiple individuals either one at a time, or in bulk, by submitting a roster to NEPPA. Certificates of completion are only available upon completion of the course.

What is the Cancellation Policy for @Your Site Virtual trainings?

No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 24 business hours prior to the class. 

How do participants connect to @Your Site Virtual trainings?

Virtual trainings are held via Zoom. Once NEPPA receives and processes the registration, participants will receive an email with their unique login credentials to access each of the individual sessions.

Are @Your Site Virtual trainings recorded?

@Your-Site Virtual Training sessions are recorded and made available to registrants after the program for up to one year. 

Do registrants receive a certificate of completion for @Your Site Virtual trainings?

Yes, at the completion of the course, registrants will receive an email including a printable Certificate of Completion which includes their name and the session title.

To help utilities ensure that their new and existing employees are properly trained in working on or near energized equipment, NEPPA has developed a comprehensive training program for utility personnel, consisting of safety and technical training. The program focuses on industry required training programs set by OSHA 1910.269, the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and the American Public Power Association Safety Manual.

@Your Site Online Training

NEPPA also offers online training in partnership with  J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.. They provide online OSHA compliant training for $40 per person, per class. Participants will receive a personalized, dedicated login and receive certificates of completion to document the training for recording and reporting requirements.

The @Your-Site Online training is regularly updated to meet federal and state regulatory requirements. The vast library of available trainings may also be utilized for new hire training.
