THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Director of Power Resources and Access, the Senior Power and Access Analyst is responsible to design, perform, interpret, and communicate analyses and modeling for short- and long-term power supply portfolio planning. Perform economic and financial analysis related to the electricity market in New England.

 

Will perform duties to advance the Cooperative’s power supply resources hedging and planning activities as well as tracking Independent System Operator of New England (ISO-NE) administered market dynamics and NEPOOL Participant dynamics.  May participate in NEPOOL/ISO-NE working groups, conferences, meetings, webinars, or other available resources.

Responsible for designing and administering Distributed Energy Resources and Demand Response (DER/DR) programs and projects.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Cost/Benefit analysis for purchases
  • Develop energy load & related cost forecasting based upon PR&A load and market price forecasts
  • Forecasting of capacity and transmission peak loads and associated costs based on price forecasts
  • Prepare Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) cost projections and administer Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) obligations, NHEC REC portfolio and forward price forecasts
  • Collaborate on Department activities relating to maintenance of tools and databases to support activities related to power accounting and rate planning
  • Access and use ISO-NE reports available through both internal and external interfaces
  • Work with software applications used in PR&A Department  (e.g. AutoGrid)
  • Work with Information Technology (IT) Department to develop special purpose programming projects
  • Administer existing Cooperative DER programs.
    • Be able to develop an understanding of the Co-op IT systems, communications systems and distribution management systems.
  • Advise on new and existing DER programs
    • Propose, test and approve new load management technologies
    • Propose and help develop new programs to enable Cooperative members to obtain and use new DER technologies
  • Work with other NHEC staff to set DER/DR program goals and milestones to achieve program objectives identified by leadership and the owner-members.
  • Participate on regional and national committees pertaining to DER programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

THE PERSON:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Accounting or related field is preferred plus 5 years of New England energy utilities experience or 9 years equivalent experience in lieu of bachelor’s degree
  • An advanced degree is desirable.
  • Knowledge of electric industry power supply, transmission resources, regional power markets, renewable energy and utility state and federal regulation strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in preparing and presenting persuasive analysis and reports to key decision makers.
  • Ability and aptitude to collaborate to educate and inform colleagues on energy related matters and support activities related to Power Resource and Access presented across NHEC Departments.
  • At least 2 years of experience in DER and/or DR program development, deployment, or administration.
  • Familiarity with behind-the-meter “smart” energy technologies such as batteries, EVs, thermostats.
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office products required. Advanced skills in Excel helpful.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Remote work part time is available with requirement of a minimum of 16 hours per week on site at the NHEC office building.  Additional hours in office optional.
  • Normal responsibilities involve office work using computer and internet technology.
  • Some day-to-day travel within the utility system may be required. Extra hours when necessary, during evenings and weekends.  Occasional overnight travel to meetings and conferences.
  • Assistance with power restoration efforts required. If necessary, during regular business hours employees will be assigned functions to support power restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties. In addition, such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours.

COMPENSATION: 

NHEC views compensation in a holistic and transparent manner. The salary range for this role is targeted at $110,000 – 130,000.
