Job Overview:

The Utilities Billing & Financial Operations Specialist position is under the direct supervision of the Utilities Manager. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities, from routine to complex, aimed at optimizing the effectiveness of the Utilities Billing and Financial Operations. The specialist executes technical billing and financial tasks with precision to ensure seamless operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a steward of financial integrity through developing and maintaining financial reporting files and helping to prepare and monitor annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Contribute to the analytical process by examining rate design and contributing to cost of service studies, ensuring fiscal accuracy and accountability.
  • Be the heartbeat of communication, collaborating with teams across the board during critical events to facilitate effective responses.
  • Manage and maintain our utility billing database, utilizing your problem-solving skills as the liaison for billing issues and ensuring customers are accurately billed.
  • Serve our community with pride, managing customer service needs with grace and effectiveness, including processing move-ins/outs, finalizing bills, and providing responsive support.
  • Demonstrate your meticulous attention to detail while processing meter reads, billing for services, and maintaining records to uphold our high standards of service.
  • Engage with customers and respond to inquiries in an approachable and professional manner, ensuring everyone receives excellent service.
  • Utilize your organizational talents to manage an efficient filing system, handle administrative tasks, and contribute your creativity to our internal and external communications.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Competencies:

  • Understanding of workplace concepts and issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma with a strong appetite for learning.
  • An associate degree in business administration is greatly valued.
  • At least 2 years of related financial or administrative experience, especially within the Utility Field, will help you excel.
  • Familiar with administrative procedures and experienced with office technology, striving for continuous improvement.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities to articulate ideas and information clearly.
  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data, with a keen eye for detail.
  • You have the capability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines reliably.
  • Familiarity with utility billing systems (electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, etc.) is a plus but not a requirement – we provide comprehensive training.
  • A collaborative and professional approach to establish and maintain constructive working relationships.
